In limited circumstances Federal employees and contractors are permitted to use pseudonyms during the performance of their official duties with the approval of their employing agency. If an agency determines that use of a pseudonym is necessary to protect an employee or contractor (e.g., from physical harm, severe distress, or harassment), 11 the agency may formally authorize the issuance of a PIV Card to the employee or contractor using the agency-approved pseudonym. The issuance of a PIV Card using an authorized pseudonym shall follow the procedures in Section 2.8, PIV Card Issuance Requirements, except that the card issuer must receive satisfactory evidence that the pseudonym is authorized by the agency.
