If the verifier and CSP or IdP are separate entities (as shown by the dotted line in Fig. 3 of [SP800-63] ), communications between the verifier and CSP or IdP SHALL occur through a mutually authenticated protected channel (e.g., a client-authenticated TLS connection) using approved cryptography.
