CVE-2026-49497 4.6 medium 0.00% nsa, ghidra Ghidra before 12.1 contains a path traversal vulnerability in SameDirDebugInfoProvider that fails to validate filenames from ELF binary .gnu_debuglink sections before constructing file paths. Attackers can craft malicious ELF binaries with traversal sequences to probe filesystem existence and leak CRC32 hashes of arbitrary files during automatic DWARF analysis. Sun 25 Oct
CVE-2026-56288 4.6 medium 0.00% gnu, patch GNU patch is vulnerable to a NULL pointer dereference when processing a specially crafted unified-diff patch file. Improper handling of consecutive end-of-file newline markers can corrupt internal hunk (single block of changes in diff) data structures, causing the application to pass a NULL pointer to fwrite() during patch processing. An attacker can trigger this condition with a malicious patch file, causing the utility to crash and resulting in a denial of service. This issue has been fixed in the commit e6d6a4e021660679d7fc9150f981d4920f722313 Sun 25 Oct
CVE-2026-56289 4.6 medium 0.00% gnu, patch GNU patch is vulnerable to a denial of service (DoS) due to improper validation of hunk (single block of changes in diff) line offsets in unified-diff input. A specially crafted patch can specify an extremely large line number, causing the application to enter an effectively infinite processing loop while attempting to locate the requested position. This results in excessive CPU consumption and prevents the process from completing. An attacker can trigger this behavior by supplying a malicious patch file, causing the utility to become unresponsive and require manual termination. This issue has been fixed in the commit faba04ef4f2b410257f76c1b9dc85e350929c4b9 Sun 25 Oct
CVE-2026-66484 4.6 medium 0.00% no CPE yet GNU cpio contains a Path Traversal vulnerability in its tar archive extraction functionality. When extracting a tar archive in copy-in mode with the --no-absolute-filenames option, the extracted file name is normalized but the tar hard-link target is passed to the link_to_name function without equivalent sanitization before calling link function. A tar archive provided by an attacker, containing a hard-link entry whose linkname is set to an absolute path outside the extraction directory, can cause cpio to create a hard link to an existing file outside the intended extraction directory, breaking the expected guarantee of --no-absolute-filenames and allowing archive-controlled linkage to external files. This issue has been fixed in commit e2b9cbdd3354d2b1569b7390d1bc15c1930559ad Sat 24 Oct
CVE-2026-66485 4.6 medium 0.00% no CPE yet GNU cpio is vulnerable to an uncontrolled memory allocation in the make_path function at src/makepath.c. The function uses alloca to allocate stack memory based on the length of argpath, which is derived from an archive-controlled pathname during extraction. A malicious cpio archive containing a sufficiently long nested pathname causes an unbounded stack allocation, resulting in a stack overflow and crash of the cpio process. An attacker who can supply a crafted cpio archive to a victim who extracts it can cause a denial of service. This issue has been fixed in commit 3cd514031371d8aeeaf2048aa10103e02831aaa9 Sat 24 Oct
CVE-2026-66486 4.6 medium 0.00% no CPE yet GNU cpio is vulnerable to improper encoding or escaping of output in its archive member listing functionality. When listing archive members via cpio -it, member names are printed directly to output without quoting or escaping. An attacker can craft a cpio archive containing member names with embedded newline characters or ANSI escape sequences, causing forged listing entries or terminal control sequence injection when the listing is displayed. This issue has been fixed in commit 2ff9600c9ef32e88759843cdbde74c8db5ae9b30 Sat 24 Oct
CVE-2026-56391 4.6 medium 0.00% gnu, coreutils GNU coreutils uniq is vulnerable to an out‑of‑bounds read due to incorrect handling of multibyte input when the -w (--check-chars) option is used. The find_field() function miscalculates the byte length of characters by repeatedly processing a fixed pointer instead of advancing through the input, resulting in an inflated length value. This incorrect length is later used in a memcmp operation, causing reads beyond the allocated buffer when processing crafted multibyte input. When running GNU coreutils uniq with attacker-provided arguments, this behavior leads to a crash and potential adjacent heap memory exposure. This issue has been fixed in the commit d64e35a8a4c0e4608321433e0d84d917e4e36371. Sat 24 Oct
CVE-2026-56390 4.6 medium 0.00% gnu, bison GNU Bison improperly handles grammar‑defined output paths. Grammar directives such as %output and %header allow specifying file paths, which are accepted without restriction and override caller‑supplied output options. When processing attacker-supplied grammar, this behavior allows directing generated files to arbitrary writable locations on the filesystem, potentially overwriting existing files accessible to the Bison process. Maintainers of this project were notified about this vulnerability, and fixed the issue in commit 8d101c19d4d9aaedf83a448c925513742d4efcf0. However, they did not provide vulnerable version range. Version 3.8.2 was tested and confirmed as vulnerable, other versions were not tested but might also be vulnerable. Fri 23 Oct
CVE-2026-35370 4.4 medium 0.00% uutils, coreutils The id utility in uutils coreutils miscalculates the groups= section of its output. The implementation uses a user's real GID instead of their effective GID to compute the group list, leading to potentially divergent output compared to GNU coreutils. Because many scripts and automated processes rely on the output of id to make security-critical access-control or permission decisions, this discrepancy can lead to unauthorized access or security misconfigurations. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2025-5278 4.4 medium 0.00% no CPE yet A flaw was found in GNU Coreutils. The sort utility's begfield() function is vulnerable to a heap buffer under-read. The program may access memory outside the allocated buffer if a user runs a crafted command using the traditional key format. A malicious input could lead to a crash or leak sensitive data. 14 Oct
CVE-2025-58183 4.3 medium 0.00% no CPE yet tar.Reader does not set a maximum size on the number of sparse region data blocks in GNU tar pax 1.0 sparse files. A maliciously-crafted archive containing a large number of sparse regions can cause a Reader to read an unbounded amount of data from the archive into memory. When reading from a compressed source, a small compressed input can result in large allocations. 8 Oct
CVE-2026-89092 4.2 medium 0.00% no CPE yet The nscd service in the GNU C Library 2.3.4 onwards may crash due to a stack overflow when a malicious DNS server returns too large a response for a DNS query, resulting in degraded DNS resolution for the system. Exploitation of this bug needs a system that has nscd enabled and using an untrusted DNS server for name resolution, with the compromised DNS server being capable of processing records large enough to result in a stack overflow in an nscd thread stack. During experimentation, bind 9 was unable to handle large records, but that could change in future or with a different name server. In typical installations, nscd is executed in an isolated context as its own user without a shell, due to which any compromise of that service is isolated. There is a remote possibility of nscd cache corruption if an attacker manages to get the stack pointer into a desired point in the heap, potentially resulting in other caches in nscd being overwritten with corrupt data through the stack overflow, until the buggy code path eventually results in a crash. Finally, a crash in nscd may result in performance degradation when resolving names, but it does not result in a denial of service. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-56355 3.7 low 0.00% no CPE yet GNU Savannah Administration Savane through 3.17 uses untrusted data as part of authorization. Sun 25 Oct
CVE-2026-35342 3.3 low 0.00% uutils, coreutils The mktemp utility in uutils coreutils fails to properly handle an empty TMPDIR environment variable. Unlike GNU mktemp, which falls back to /tmp when TMPDIR is an empty string, the uutils implementation treats the empty string as a valid path. This causes temporary files to be created in the current working directory (CWD) instead of the intended secure temporary directory. If the CWD is more permissive or accessible to other users than /tmp, it may lead to unintended information disclosure or unauthorized access to temporary data. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-35346 3.3 low 0.00% uutils, coreutils The comm utility in uutils coreutils silently corrupts data by performing lossy UTF-8 conversion on all output lines. The implementation uses String::from_utf8_lossy(), which replaces invalid UTF-8 byte sequences with the Unicode replacement character (U+FFFD). This behavior differs from GNU comm, which processes raw bytes and preserves the original input. This results in corrupted output when the utility is used to compare binary files or files using non-UTF-8 legacy encodings. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-35367 3.3 low 0.00% uutils, coreutils The nohup utility in uutils coreutils creates its default output file, nohup.out, without specifying explicit restricted permissions. This causes the file to inherit umask-based permissions, typically resulting in a world-readable file (0644). In multi-user environments, this allows any user on the system to read the captured stdout/stderr output of a command, potentially exposing sensitive information. This behavior diverges from GNU coreutils, which creates nohup.out with owner-only (0600) permissions. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-35375 3.3 low 0.00% uutils, coreutils A logic error in the split utility of uutils coreutils causes the corruption of output filenames when provided with non-UTF-8 prefix or suffix inputs. The implementation utilizes to_string_lossy() when constructing chunk filenames, which automatically rewrites invalid byte sequences into the UTF-8 replacement character (U+FFFD). This behavior diverges from GNU split, which preserves raw pathname bytes intact. In environments utilizing non-UTF-8 encodings, this vulnerability leads to the creation of files with incorrect names, potentially causing filename collisions, broken automation, or the misdirection of output data. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-35378 3.3 low 0.00% uutils, coreutils A logic error in the expr utility of uutils coreutils causes the program to evaluate parenthesized subexpressions during the parsing phase rather than at the execution phase. This implementation flaw prevents the utility from performing proper short-circuiting for logical OR (|) and AND (&) operations. As a result, arithmetic errors (such as division by zero) occurring within "dead" branches, branches that should be ignored due to short-circuiting, are raised as fatal errors. This divergence from GNU expr behavior can cause guarded expressions within shell scripts to fail with hard errors instead of returning expected boolean results, leading to premature script termination and breaking GNU-compatible shell control flow. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-35379 3.3 low 0.00% uutils, coreutils A logic error in the tr utility of uutils coreutils causes the program to incorrectly define the [:graph:] and [:print:] character classes. The implementation mistakenly includes the ASCII space character (0x20) in the [:graph:] class and excludes it from the [:print:] class, effectively reversing the standard behavior established by POSIX and GNU coreutils. This vulnerability leads to unintended data modification or loss when the utility is used in automated scripts or data-cleaning pipelines that rely on standard character class semantics. For example, a command executed to delete all graphical characters while intending to preserve whitespace will incorrectly delete all ASCII spaces, potentially resulting in data corruption or logic failures in downstream processing. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-35381 3.3 low 0.00% uutils, coreutils A logic error in the cut utility of uutils coreutils causes the utility to ignore the -s (only-delimited) flag when using the -z (null-terminated) and -d '' (empty delimiter) options together. The implementation incorrectly routes this specific combination through a specialized newline-delimiter code path that fails to check the record suppression status. Consequently, uutils cut emits the entire record plus a NUL byte instead of suppressing it. This divergence from GNU coreutils behavior creates a data integrity risk for automated pipelines that rely on cut -s to filter out undelimited data. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-35377 3.3 low 0.00% uutils, coreutils A logic error in the env utility of uutils coreutils causes a failure to correctly parse command-line arguments when utilizing the -S (split-string) option. In GNU env, backslashes within single quotes are treated literally (with the exceptions of \\ and \'). However, the uutils implementation incorrectly attempts to validate these sequences, resulting in an "invalid sequence" error and an immediate process termination with an exit status of 125 when encountering valid but unrecognized sequences like \a or \x. This divergence from GNU behavior breaks compatibility for automated scripts and administrative workflows that rely on standard split-string semantics, leading to a local denial of service for those operations. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-35344 3.3 low 0.00% uutils, coreutils The dd utility in uutils coreutils suppresses errors during file truncation operations by unconditionally calling Result::ok() on truncation attempts. While intended to mimic GNU behavior for special files like /dev/null, the uutils implementation also hides failures on regular files and directories caused by full disks or read-only file systems. This can lead to silent data corruption in backup or migration scripts, as the utility may report a successful operation even when the destination file contains old or garbage data. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2019-19126 3.3 low 0.00% gnu, canonical, glibc, ubuntu_linux, fedora On the x86-64 architecture, the GNU C Library (aka glibc) before 2.31 fails to ignore the LD_PREFER_MAP_32BIT_EXEC environment variable during program execution after a security transition, allowing local attackers to restrict the possible mapping addresses for loaded libraries and thus bypass ASLR for a setuid program. 14 Oct
CVE-2026-57053 2.5 low 0.00% gnu, libidn GNU libidn before 1.44 is prone to out-of-bounds reads of uninitialized memory in the ToUnicode APIs because of mishandling in idna_to_unicode_internal. The affected code is not present in libidn2. Sun 25 Oct
CVE-2021-27645 2.5 low 0.00% gnu, fedoraproject, glibc, fedora, debian_linux The nameserver caching daemon (nscd) in the GNU C Library (aka glibc or libc6) 2.29 through 2.33, when processing a request for netgroup lookup, may crash due to a double-free, potentially resulting in degraded service or Denial of Service on the local system. This is related to netgroupcache.c. 14 Oct
CVE-2025-66861 2.5 low 0.00% gnu, binutils An issue was discovered in function d_unqualified_name in file cp-demangle.c in BinUtils 2.26 allowing attackers to cause a denial of service via crafted PE file. 13 Oct
CVE-2026-53910 2.1 low 0.00% no CPE yet diff3 tool from GNU diffutils is vulnerable to a heap‑based buffer overflow due to multiple signed integer overflows in line‑mapping calculations. Incorrect arithmetic in mapping line ranges can result in corrupted values being used for memory allocation and loop bounds. When processing crafted diff output, these overflows may cause the application to allocate insufficient memory and subsequently perform out‑of‑bounds writes during internal processing. An attacker who can control the output of the diff program used by diff3 (e.g. via --diff-program pointing to a malicious script) can trigger out-of-bounds writes, resulting in a crash and potentially remote code execution depending on the environment. This issue has been fixed in commit 9ff04d5b84743e331e80b589335a52c5480d1815 NOTE: The project maintainers claim that this is not a security issue. They state that the worst outcome this issue can cause is a crash of diff and that it cannot be used to escalate privileges. Sat 24 Oct
CVE-2026-41991 2.0 low 0.00% gnu, gzip GNU gzip contains a vulnerability in the gzexe utility related to insecure temporary file handling. When the mktemp utility is not available in the user’s PATH, gzexe falls back to constructing a temporary file path based solely on the process ID (PID). This predictable filename is created without exclusive access or existence checks. A local attacker can pre‑create the predicted temporary file path as a symbolic link pointing to an arbitrary file writable by the victim. When gzexe runs, it follows the symlink and overwrites the target file, resulting in a time‑of‑check to time‑of‑use (TOCTOU) condition that allows arbitrary file overwrite. This issue has been fixed in the commit 4e6f8b24ab823146ab8776f0b7fe486ab34d4269 Sun 25 Oct

CVE-2026-56392 1.8 low 0.00% gnu, coreutils GNU coreutils unexpand is vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow due to an integer overflow during buffer allocation when processing large tab stop (-t) values. The multiplication used to calculate the allocation size can wrap around, resulting in an undersized buffer. When processing crafted input, subsequent writes exceed the allocated memory, leading to an out‑of‑bounds heap write. When running GNU coreutils unexpand with attacker-provided large tab stop (-t) arguments, this behavior leads to a crash and potentially achieve a heap write primitive depending on memory layout. This issue has been fixed in the commit b60a159fdc5bfcf9988d3a4cb6f53abe8ad5d35d Sat 24 Oct
CVE-2026-99170 unscored 0.00% no CPE yet In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: namespace: a mount that copy_tree() leaves out can't take over a lock Since commit c62a4766937e ("move_mount: transfer MNT_LOCKED") a mount can be moved beneath a locked mount. The lock moves from the old cover to the new mount which takes over the job of hiding what's under it and the old cover can be unmounted. That works as long as the new mount stays. But the caller picks the new mount and copy_tree() leaves a mount of a mount namespace file out of every copy made without CL_COPY_MNT_NS_FILE, together with everything mounted on it, and never looks at MNT_LOCKED. unshare(CLONE_NEWNS) and mount propagation make such copies. So a task that is root in its own user namespace gets rid of a locked cover on a file without a race and without touching the filesystem below it. It makes a child with a mount namespace of its own, binds the child's /proc/<pid>/ns/mnt beneath the cover with MOVE_MOUNT_BENEATH, which hands the lock to that bind, and calls unshare(CLONE_NEWNS). The new mount namespace has nothing on the file. That's the usual way to mask a single file, a bind of /dev/null or of an empty file. With a bind of an ordinary file the file stays covered. copy_tree() already refuses to leave out a locked unbindable mount with -EPERM since commit df7342b24018 ("mount: Don't allow copying MNT_UNBINDABLE|MNT_LOCKED mounts"). Do the same for a locked mount of a mount namespace file. That also covers a tree copied with CL_COPY_MNT_NS_FILE and attached into a mount namespace of another user namespace where lock_mnt_tree() locks it. Note that unshare(CLONE_NEWNS) and clone(CLONE_NEWNS) fail with EPERM from such a mount namespace from then on. The mount can't be left out and it can't be unmounted. And refuse to move a mount of a mount namespace file beneath a locked mount in the first place. Otherwise the task ends up with a mount it can't unmount and an unshare() that fails for good. Chris also found a second mount that goes away by itself, a clone of an automounted mount that shrink_submounts() took along with its parent. Commit f78ddcc87224 ("namespace: never expire a locked mount") took care of that one. Chris's reproducer is appended. Mode nsfile reads SECRET after the unshare() on 7.3-rc7, with this patch the move_mount() fails with EINVAL and the file stays covered. nsfile-control uses an ordinary file and reads MASK both ways. // SPDX-License-Identifier: GPL-2.0 /* * Get rid of a locked cover with MOVE_MOUNT_BENEATH. * * The "admin" (root) makes a tmpfs W: * W/D file, holds SECRET, covered by a bind of a file with MASK * W/Dd/inner file, holds SECRET, Dd is covered by a bind of a directory * whose "inner" holds MASK * W/own directory of uid 1000 with the file "mine" and the * directory "minedir", whose "inner" holds MINE * W/dbg debugfs, mode 755. dbg/tracing is an automount point * The "attacker" is uid 1000.
