CVE-2018-1000880 6.5 medium 4.0% libarchive, canonical, ubuntu_linux, fedora libarchive version commit 9693801580c0cf7c70e862d305270a16b52826a7 onwards (release v3.2.0 onwards) contains a CWE-20: Improper Input Validation vulnerability in WARC parser - libarchive/archive_read_support_format_warc.c, _warc_read() that can result in DoS - quasi-infinite run time and disk usage from tiny file. This attack appear to be exploitable via the victim must open a specially crafted WARC file. 8 Oct
CVE-2018-1000879 6.5 medium 3.0% libarchive, fedoraproject, fedora, leap libarchive version commit 379867ecb330b3a952fb7bfa7bffb7bbd5547205 onwards (release v3.3.0 onwards) contains a CWE-476: NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability in ACL parser - libarchive/archive_acl.c, archive_acl_from_text_l() that can result in Crash/DoS. This attack appear to be exploitable via the victim must open a specially crafted archive file. 8 Oct
CVE-2022-36227 9.8 critical 2.0% libarchive, debian, debian_linux, fedora In libarchive before 3.6.2, the software does not check for an error after calling calloc function that can return with a NULL pointer if the function fails, which leads to a resultant NULL pointer dereference. NOTE: the discoverer cites this CWE-476 remark but third parties dispute the code-execution impact: "In rare circumstances, when NULL is equivalent to the 0x0 memory address and privileged code can access it, then writing or reading memory is possible, which may lead to code execution." 8 Oct
CVE-2026-69639 9.8 critical 1.0% microsoft, windows_10_1809, windows_10_21h2, windows_10_22h2 Heap-based buffer overflow in Windows Libarchive allows an unauthorized attacker to execute code over a network. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-69985 8.8 high 1.0% microsoft, windows_10_1809, windows_10_21h2, windows_10_22h2 Heap-based buffer overflow in Windows Libarchive allows an unauthorized attacker to execute code over a network. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-70062 8.1 high 1.0% microsoft, windows_10_1809, windows_10_21h2, windows_10_22h2 Double free in Windows Libarchive allows an unauthorized attacker to execute code over a network. 15 h ago
CVE-2026-5121 7.5 high 1.0% libarchive, redhat, hardened_images, openshift_container_platform A flaw was found in libarchive. On 32-bit systems, an integer overflow vulnerability exists in the zisofs block pointer allocation logic. A remote attacker can exploit this by providing a specially crafted ISO9660 image, which can lead to a heap buffer overflow. This could potentially allow for arbitrary code execution on the affected system. 14 Oct
CVE-2026-4424 7.5 high 1.0% libarchive, redhat, hardened_images, openshift_container_platform A flaw was found in libarchive. This heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability exists in the RAR archive processing logic due to improper validation of the LZSS sliding window size after transitions between compression methods. A remote attacker can exploit this by providing a specially crafted RAR archive, leading to the disclosure of sensitive heap memory information without requiring authentication or user interaction. 14 Oct
CVE-2026-4111 7.5 high 1.0% no CPE yet A flaw was identified in the RAR5 archive decompression logic of the libarchive library, specifically within the archive_read_data() processing path. When a specially crafted RAR5 archive is processed, the decompression routine may enter a state where internal logic prevents forward progress. This condition results in an infinite loop that continuously consumes CPU resources. Because the archive passes checksum validation and appears structurally valid, affected applications cannot detect the issue before processing. This can allow attackers to cause persistent denial-of-service conditions in services that automatically process archives. 14 Oct
CVE-2026-14164 7.5 high 1.0% no CPE yet A double free issue has been identified in libarchive's RAR5 reader. During parsing of a specially crafted RAR5 archive, the filtered_buf pointer may remain stale after being freed during unpacking state reinitialization. Subsequent processing of another archive entry can trigger a second free of the same memory region, resulting in a double-free condition. Successful exploitation may cause applications using the vulnerable libarchive API to terminate unexpectedly, leading to a denial of service. 14 Oct
CVE-2026-69968 6.5 medium 1.0% microsoft, windows_10_1809, windows_10_21h2, windows_10_22h2 Relative path traversal in Windows Libarchive allows an unauthorized attacker to perform tampering over a network. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-69973 6.5 medium 1.0% microsoft, windows_10_1809, windows_10_21h2, windows_10_22h2 Improper limitation of a pathname to a restricted directory ('path traversal') in Windows Libarchive allows an unauthorized attacker to perform tampering over a network. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2025-5914 7.8 high 0.00% libarchive, redhat, openshift_container_platform, enterprise_linux A vulnerability has been identified in the libarchive library, specifically within the archive_read_format_rar_seek_data() function. This flaw involves an integer overflow that can ultimately lead to a double-free condition. Exploiting a double-free vulnerability can result in memory corruption, enabling an attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial-of-service condition. 12 Oct
CVE-2026-53655 6.9 medium 0.00% isaacs, tar node-tar is a full-featured Tar for Node.js. Prior to 7.5.16, tar (node-tar) applies a PAX extended header's size= record (and other PAX overrides) to the next header entry of any type, including intermediary metadata headers such as a GNU long-name (L) or long-link (K) entry. Per POSIX pax, a PAX extended header (x) describes the next file entry, not the intermediary extension headers that may sit between the x header and the file it annotates. Because node-tar lets the PAX size override the byte length of an intervening L/K/x header, an attacker can desynchronize node-tar's stream cursor relative to every other mainstream tar implementation (GNU tar, libarchive/bsdtar, Python tarfile, and the now-fixed tar-rs / astral-tokio-tar). The result is a tar parser interpretation differential (CWE-436): a single crafted archive yields a different set of members under node-tar than under the reference tar tools. An attacker can use this to hide a member from one parser while it is visible to another, which defeats security tooling whose scanner and extractor disagree on archive contents (e.g. a malware/secret scanner that lists entries with one library while a downstream step extracts with another) This vulnerability is fixed in 7.5.16. CVE-2026-107335 6.5 medium 0.00% no CPE yet Malcolm's upload-processing pipeline (scripts/safe-extract.py) enforces entry-count, nesting-depth, and total-uncompressed-byte limits when extracting container archives (zip/tar/rar/7z via libarchive), but those limits are not applied when the uploaded file is a single-stream compressed format (.gz, .bz2, .xz, .lzma, .lz) that isn't a .tar.*-style archive. Any authenticated user permitted to upload PCAP/log files can upload a small, highly compressible file (e.g. a gzip bomb) that decompresses to an effectively unbounded size on disk, exhausting the shared Docker volume used by OpenSearch, Logstash, Arkime, and Zeek, and disrupting the platform for all users. 13 Oct
CVE-2026-92205 6.1 medium 0.00% no CPE yet BusyBox libarchive Symlink Directory Traversal Arbitrary File Creation Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to create arbitrary files on affected installations of BusyBox. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the libarchive component. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of a user-supplied path prior to using it in file operations. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to create files in the context of the current user. Was ZDI-CAN-27556. Thu 22 Oct
CVE-2026-5745 5.5 medium 0.00% libarchive, redhat, hardened_images, openshift_container_platform A flaw was found in libarchive. A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability exists in the ACL parsing logic, specifically within the archive_acl_from_text_nl() function. When processing a malformed ACL string (such as a bare "d" or "default" tag without subsequent fields), the function fails to perform adequate validation before advancing the pointer. An attacker can exploit this by providing a maliciously crafted archive, causing an application utilizing the libarchive API (such as bsdtar) to crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS). Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-63134 5.3 medium 0.00% no CPE yet Malcolm is a network traffic analysis tool suite. Prior to version 26.07.0, `safe-extract.py` protects file extraction with libarchive's secure flags, but creates directory entries with a raw `os.makedirs(os.path.join(dest, entry.pathname))` that has no traversal protection. An uploaded malicious archive containing a directory entry with a `../` sequence or an absolute path causes the filebeat processing container to create directories outside the intended extraction directory. Version 26.07.0 fixes the issue. Sat 24 Oct
CVE-2026-15028 3.9 low 0.00% no CPE yet A flaw was found in libarchive. This vulnerability allows a remote attacker to trigger a heap overflow by providing a specially crafted tar archive. The issue occurs during the parsing of a PAX extended header containing a malformed SUN.holesdata sparse-file attribute. Successful exploitation could lead to a denial of service, making the system unavailable, or potentially allow for arbitrary code execution, giving the attacker control over the affected system. 9 Oct
CVE-2026-17591 3.6 low 0.00% no CPE yet A flaw was found in libarchive. An attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) or potential information disclosure due to a use-after-free vulnerability, which occurs when a program reads memory that has already been released. This issue arises when the archive_entry_copy_mac_metadata() function deallocates an internal buffer before completing a data copy. An attacker who can supply input to an application utilizing this function can trigger the flaw to crash the application or read uninitialized memory data. 19 Oct
CVE-2025-64031 2.5 low 0.00% no CPE yet libarchive 3.8.x before 3.8.2 has a strcpy heap-based buffer overflow in the gzip writer via the original-filename field to archive_compressor_gzip_open in archive_write_add_filter_gzip.c, aka GHSA-92wx-p669-8gr9. This relates to bsdtar. Exploitation envisions a marginally plausible scenario in which original-filename is obtained from an untrusted party. (original-filename is not derived from the input data.) 14 Oct
