CVE-2026-44727 9.3 critical 0.00% jupyter, jupyter_server Jupyter Server is the backend for Jupyter web applications. Prior to 2.20, the nbconvert HTTP handlers in jupyter_server render user-authored notebook HTML under the Jupyter origin without a sandbox directive in their Content-Security-Policy. Combined with nbconvert.HTMLExporter's default non-sanitizing behavior, a notebook carrying an HTML payload in a display_data output triggers stored XSS with cookie access, full /api/* authority, and kernel RCE. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.20. Sun 25 Oct
CVE-2026-114140 8.8 high 0.00% no CPE yet The nbconvert tool, jupyter nbconvert, converts Jupyter notebooks to various other formats via Jinja templates. From 5.4.0 until 7.17.2, ExtractOutputPreprocessor in nbconvert/preprocessors/extractoutput.py joins the attacker-controlled cell output metadata filename to output_files_dir without limiting the result to the intended directory. When a victim converts a malicious notebook with the markdown, LaTeX, reStructuredText, or AsciiDoc exporter, path traversal in the output filename can write attacker-controlled output data to arbitrary locations accessible to the victim. Running the notebook cell again replaces the malicious output metadata, but merely converting the supplied notebook does not. This issue is fixed in version 7.17.2. 49 min ago
CVE-2026-39377 6.5 medium 0.00% jupyter, nbconvert The nbconvert tool, jupyter nbconvert, converts Jupyter notebooks to various other formats via Jinja templates. Versions 6.5 through 7.17.0 allow arbitrary file writes to locations outside the intended output directory when processing notebooks containing crafted cell attachment filenames. The `ExtractAttachmentsPreprocessor` passes attachment filenames directly to the filesystem without sanitization, enabling path traversal attacks. This vulnerability provides complete control over both the destination path and file extension. Version 7.17.1 contains a patch. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-39378 6.5 medium 0.00% jupyter, nbconvert The nbconvert tool, jupyter nbconvert, converts Jupyter notebooks to various other formats via Jinja templates. In versions 6.5 through 7.17.0, when `HTMLExporter.embed_images=True`, nbconvert's markdown renderer allows arbitrary file read via path traversal in image references. A malicious notebook can exfiltrate sensitive files from the conversion host by embedding them as base64 data URIs in the output HTML. nbconvert 7.17.1 contains a fix. As a workaround, do not enable `HTMLExporter.embed_images`; it is not enabled by default. Mon 26 Oct
CVE-2026-6658 5.4 medium 0.00% no CPE yet A vulnerability in jupyter/nbconvert versions <= 7.17.0 allows for Cross-site Scripting (XSS) via unsanitized `text/vnd.mermaid` output in HTML exports. The `data_mermaid` block in `share/templates/lab/base.html.j2` renders `text/vnd.mermaid` cell output directly into HTML without escaping, enabling attackers to inject arbitrary HTML/JavaScript by breaking out of the `<pre>` tag. This vulnerability impacts any server using nbconvert to render notebooks as HTML, allowing attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the context of users viewing the HTML export. Sun 25 Oct
